International Students
Usually, international students and students with an international pre-university education (who do not have a Dutch vwo diploma) should not register in Studielink right away, but first apply for admission at Leiden University's Admissions Office. This also applies to an International Baccalaureate, European Baccalaureate and vwo diploma from Surinam.
There is one exeption: if you already have a Leiden University Bachelor's degree which gives direct access to the master's of your choice, registration in Studielink suffices. In Studielink, first choose 'Application for termination of enrolment' of your bachelor's, then apply for enrolment in your master's programme. Do not forget to (re)apply for a visa and/or residence permit, if necessary.
Netherlands Antilles
A vwo diploma from the Netherlands Antilles does not count as an international diploma, but as yet Studielink is not able to verify this diploma on-line. We therefore advise you to follow the application procedure for international students, so your application will not be delayed.
How to apply (bachelor's and master's programme's)
1. Apply for admission using Leiden University's online application form. After having been admitted, you will receive an official decision on admission from the Admissions Office.
2. After receiving your decision on admission, please register in Studielink. From Studielink you will probably receive some automated messages, informing you that your application request cannot be processed further until Leiden University receives a copy of your passport and residence permit. You can ignore these messages if you have already sent in these documents for your application at the Admissions Office.
Application deadlines
Application for a ‘limited quota’ programme
If you have applied for a limited quota bachelor's programme, you should follow a different application procedure:
-
Apply for admission using Leiden University's online application form.
Please note: the deadline to apply for admission at Leiden University for 'limited quota' programmes is 1 April.
-
Do not wait until you have been admitted, but directly afterwards register in Studielink. Studielink will inform you that your application request cannot be processed further until Leiden University receives a copy of your passport. You need to send these to Leiden University's Student Administration as soon as possible, even if you have already sent the same documents to the Admissions Office.
Please note: your application in Studielink has to be processed before 15 May in order to participate in the limited quota system.
